April 30th CLE: VATICAN LAW

The WSBA International Practice Section presents:

The State of the Vatican

Vatican City is widely known as the center of the Roman Catholic faith, and the home of the Pope. However, Vatican City is also the world’s smallest sovereign state, with the Pope its head of state. Rare in the modern world, it is a non-hereditary monarchy. As both a sovereign state among international peers, and the home of one of the world’s great religions, Vatican City brings great political influence to bear on world events and world leaders, quite apart from its spiritual role for Catholics. It holds property worldwide and operates its own secret service. Knowledge of the State of the Vatican City, its constitutional system and political position is of great interest to the international lawyer. Mark your calendars for this interesting insight!

Attendees at this interesting CLE will gain an understanding of:
  • A basic history of Vatican City;
  • Important conceptual distinction between the Holy See and Vatican City;
  • Vatican City constitutional and legal system; and
  • The jurisdiction of Vatican City courts in the US and worldwide.
