Topics/Speakers: International Funds Transfers: Trade Payments and Foreign Direct Investment in the Post 9/11 Environment Mr. Taylor will expand on the various traditional methods of making and receiving payments overseas, focusing on pitfalls to avoid as well as conflict resolutions. He will review the changes that are underway in financial institutions as a result of the newly implemented post 9/11 Anti-Money Laundering (AML) legislation, and how these may impact a firm’s ability to operate in the international arena. OFAC Embargoes, Anti-Boycott Rules and International Payments: A Short Introduction Mr. Dong will explain the Office of Foreign Assets Control’s (OFAC) various national embargoes (e.g., Cuba, Iran, Sudan), investment bans (e.g. Myanmar/Burma); the list of Specially Designated Nationals (SDNs), including terrorists and terrorist-sponsoring organizations; and a review of banking-related rules in the Commerce Department’s anti-boycott regulations covering letters of credit.
