SAVE-THE-DATE: WA Law Students' Reception Thursday, November 5th!

This fabulous event is for both law students and members of the WSBA International Practice Section. Join us for some great hors d'oeuvres and beverages, an opportunity to meet with WA law students interested in international law and lawyers of the WSBA International Practice Section, and a chance to hear from Ms. Karen Summerville of Legal Career Management discuss how to find success and satisfaction in the law - whether international or not - upon graduation from law school.

Speaker:
Ms. Karen Summerville's international legal background includes the study of law in Germany and acting as a referral attorney for the German Consulate when still in practice. She was a partner in the law firm Betts, Patterson & Mines, where her focus was on commercial litigation and where she was active in associate hires and training. She was also an associate with Williams, Kastner and Gibbs, where she was also a member of the hiring committee.

Prior to forming Legal Career Management, Ms. Summerville was Vice President, Client Relations with Lee Hecht Harrison, one of the largest outplacement and career-consulting firms in the U.S. She is a graduate of the University of Washington School of Law, where she was Managing Editor of the Washington Law Review. She also served as the Interim Director, Career Services in 1995.

Ms. Summerville presents frequent workshops on career management for lawyers and law students. Her column, "Managing Your Legal Career," is featured in the King County Bar Bulletin.

The Hague Convention has attempted to address the issues pertaining to international child custody. Despite the comprehensive scope of the convention few U.S. Attorneys realize and understand the authority it yields in U.S Courts and abroad. Join Ramina Dehkhoda-Steele as she helps U.S. Practitioners navigate the Hague Convention.


Attendees at this interesting CLE will gain an understanding of the following:

- A basic overview of the Hague Convention
- Signatories to the Convention
- Enforceability of the Hague Convention within the United States
- Practical tips when dealing with the Hague Convention

Ramina Dehkhoda-Steele is the partner-in-charge of the Seattle office of the international law firm Adorno & Yoss. She is a litigator with a focus on employment law, corporate and business law, real estate and family law.
