FEB 29TH CLE - THE FOREIGN CORRUPT PRACTICES ACT

 The WSBA International Practice Section presents a CLE on:

AN INTRODUCTION TO THE FOREIGN CORRUPT PRACTICES ACT

Date/Time:  February 29th, 2012, 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Description:
For companies conducting business internationally, understanding and complying with the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) has never been more important. FCPA enforcement has increased dramatically; in 2010, the DOJ assessed more than $1.2 billion in financial penalties against U.S. and foreign companies under the once little-enforced FCPA. Additionally, many executives have pleaded guilty to felony FCPA charges.  This CLE will provide an introduction to the FCPA’s major provisions and cover recent enforcement trends.  Join Mark Bartlett and Matt Cooper, as they help navigate the intricate and highly complex laws of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.

Attendees at this interesting CLE will gain an understanding of:
1)     How to identify issues arising from the FCPA;
2)     How to avoid common pitfalls arising out of FCPA;
3)     Solutions and best practices where FCPA issues arise;

Seminar - A Conversation About Asia

The WSBA International Practice Section encourages you to attend  “A Conversation About Asia with Ex-Im Bank Director Patricia M. Loui” which will be held on Tuesday, February 28, 2012 between 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm at the World Trade Center in Seattle. This event is co-sponsored by the Export Finance Assistance Center of Washington (EFACW) and  the World Trade Club Seattle.

The keynote address will be provided by Director Patricia Loui from the Export Import Bank of the United States (Ex-Im Bank) whose main effort is to promote U.S. exports to Asia (where she has over 30 years of expertise).   Ex-Im Bank has supported over $60 billion in export sales from Washington State companies over the past 5 years.

Director Loui would like to meet with Washington businesses who export along with the public and private organizations that support them.  Director Loui will also update the audience about the status of Ex-Im Bank’s reauthorization as well as news from Washington D.C. affecting international trade.  Ex-Im Bank’s reauthorization is currently a hot topic in Congress.  Ex-Im Bank’s charter expired on September 30, 2011, and the Bank is currently operating under an extension that expires on May 31, 2012.
